Nuits Romanes - 30 June-1 Sept. 2012

Poitou-Charentes is fiercely proud of its many Romanesque churches and the Nuits Romanes summer festival has been hugely successful in opening up these stunning buildings to a new audience.

Launched in 2005 by Ségolène Royal, President of the Poitou-Charentes Region, Nuits Romanes uses these historic sites as venues for a packed programme of concerts, shows, and tastings of local produce.

This year’s event runs from 30 June to 1 September at churches right across the region and if 2011 is anything to go by, visitors are in for a treat.

Last year’s programme included 112 free concerts and more than 200 shows, more than 900 artists and 500 local producers.

More than 60,000 spectators attended events over the eight-week festival, amongst them 11,000 tourists.

Expect a diverse programme of music from rock to baroque, as well as acrobats, circus performers, and light shows.
