Polychromies light show - June-Sept. 2012
Step back into the Middle Ages with the spectacular ‘Polychromies’ light show on the west front of Notre-Dame la Grande church, one of Poitiers’ most iconic buildings.
Located right in the heart of the regional capital, this beautifully sculpted façade may be pale stone today, but in medieval times, the arches, pillars and figures would have been painted in brilliant colours.
Traces of paint were found on the sculptures when this masterpiece of Romanesque Art was restored in 1995.
Now illumination specialists Skertzo have devised a stunning 15-minute light show which gives 21st century visitors a real feel for how the church might have looked to Medieval worshippers.
The free shows start at 22.30 from mid-June to end-August, and at 21.30 during the first three weeks of September.
