Bressuire Highland Games - 9-10 June 2012
The ancient stones of Bressuire Chateau will vibrate to the sound of marching bands, bagpipes and Celtic folk music over the weekend of June 9 and 10.
Every other year, this historic castle provides the atmospheric backdrop to the European Highland Games team championship, organised by the Association sportive des Jeux d’Ecosse en France (AJEF), as well as the individual French national event.
International pairs taking part in the team competitors include strong men from Hungary, Germany and Finland, France, Ireland and, of course, Scotland.
Feats of strength include moving the rock, tossing the tree trunk, and throwing the hammer.
Meanwhile the Celtic music festival will bring a touch of the glens to the countryside of Poitou-Charentes.
Enjoy Scottish and Irish dancing, eat traditional French and Scottish food, and dance Saturday night away to the music of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers.
