If you are a fan of comic strips and comic strip art then Angoulême is THE place to be at the end of January.

That's when the annual Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d'Angoulême or comic strip art festival descends upon the Charente town.

This lively and always well-attended internationally-acclaimed festival is the ideal place to see the massive variety of comic strips, cartoons and art being created today.

At various locations across the historic centre of Angoulême you can see exhibitions, comic book publishers, young aspiring and older established artists – and some fun, colourful and very often irreverent comic strip art.

The mingling of fans and artists creates an exciting, friendly atmosphere and the festival provides a great excuse to get out and about on a chill winter's day.

The 39th festival takes place from 26 to 29 January 2012.
