Musiques Métisses - 25-27 May 2012
Soak up the sounds and spirit of French territories overseas at the Musiques Métisses festival in Angoulême which celebrates its 37th year from 25 to 27 May 2012. Launched in 1976 as a festival of jazz and improvised music from France and Europe, Musiques Métisses quickly expanded to include performers from Africa and the Caribbean, Latin America and the Indian Ocean. Today Musiques Métisses is vibrant proof that modern popular music doesn’t have to come from Britain or the United States, and has provided the model for multi-cultural events in countries as far away as Canada and Japan. The festival is no longer just about music either - enjoy three days of films, literature, and children’s activities. Workshops and master-classes also take place in neighbouring towns in the month leading up to the festival, enabling audiences to meet performers and become part of the whole Musiques Métisses experience.
