Fête du Cognac – 28-30 July 2016

Celebrate Charente food and drink at this three day festival

Set in the heart of the Charente, the town of Cognac is most famous for the export of its namesake. It is only fitting then that, for three days each summer, the town celebrates all things cognac based as well as other local specialities such as pineau and Charentaise wine.

Based around the port with the historic cognac houses and the château as a backdrop, this festival is all about gastronomy. A dozen different stalls manned by 350 volunteers serve more than 20,000 plates of Charentaise products from melons to oysters and cheese to snails, all accompanied by one of the region’s speciality drinks. Choose a cognac cocktail or a glass of local wine to enjoy in the balmy summer evening.

Then at 9pm, the music starts! Each night there are two concerts with the second starting at 11pm. Every year, a mixture of local and international bands entertain the audience.

There is a small charge to enter the festival. Like many French festivals, once inside, all food and drink must be purchased using ‘jetons’, small plastic tokens costing 1€ each. Any unused tokens can be refunded.
