Live the dream this summer at Royan on the Atlantic Coast at one of three concerts in the 2012 programme, Un Violon sur le Sable. More than 40,000 music-lovers of all ages gather each night on the Grande Plage for an event which began 24 years ago with one violinist from the Paris Opéra playing with a taped accompaniment.
That lone musician was followed a year later by a quartet, then a chamber orchestra, and eventually a symphony orchestra for one single concert. Then in 1999, the event was expanded into three concerts and now Royan welcomes an orchestra of 85 classical musicians conducted by Jérôme Pillement and accompanied by a stellar cast of visiting soloists.
The 2012 performances take place on 21, 24 and 27 July.
