    Les jardins du Coq are located in a beautiful valley in the South West between Charente and Dordogne 5 mn from Aubeterre. These gardens created in 2012 on 2 hectares tell the life story of their creator through plants. Three very different areas separated by streams – themed gardens with a collection of roses, a wild garden with lavender field and trees, Paloma’s wood for a natural place of tales and legends. These environmentally friendly gardens, reminiscent of carefree days of youth bring to mind personal memories.

  • Touristrain - Petit Train de Fouras

    Two commented itineraries (your choice!) wil allow you to appreciate the variety of the peninsula from the departure point in Fort Vauban; 1/ Fouras les Bains, a peninsula known for its oysters, its bathing and its history, of which three centuries shall be narrated to you. And then, the forts to be espied and studied: Vauban, Enet and Fort Boyard; their role was to protect the Arsenal. You will also appreciate the resort station's 5 beaches, a panoramic view of the 4 islands, and abundant oyster farms, as well. Duration: 45 minutes. 2/ A circuit amidst the marshlands: Through prairies interlaced with canals, and then the mouth of the Charente river in the direction of Fort Vasou. Duration: 1 hour.

  • Bureau municipal du Tourisme de Ligugé

    This village is located in the centre of a valley next to the Clain River, and famous for its Benedictine Abbey - the first monastery to be founded in Gaul in 361 A.D. by Saint Martin.Today, visitors can only have access to the new Abbey church (1927), where they can attend services and visit the gallery of enamel work, hand made by the monks.Nearby: the parish church near the monastery which was rebuilt in 1505 and where excavations, which began in 1953, have unearthed an exceptional number of pre-Roman buildings.   • Musée de Bressuire - Galerie des Arcades

    The Bressuire museum is a museum of art and history set up in the town's one-time granaries. In addtion to traditional furniture, documents and works by local artists, it presents an excellent collection of 17th through 19th century earthenware, most of which is French. From the 15th century on, the town featured potters' workshops (Saint Porchaire), and a series of ceramics representative of local production up until the 20th century is on display. Bressuire is also the birthplace of the glass blower and window restorer Max Ingrand (1908-1969), and the museum will soon be presenting the glass slabs and window panes of this internationally recognized artist. The 1st-floor permanent collections are being restructured and may be seen only by groups (10 persons minimum) and on appointment. On the museum's ground floor, in the 'Galerie des Arcades', the 'Les Amis des Arts' association regularly presents exhibits of works by contemporary artists, sculptors, painters, ceramicists, illuminators, calligraphers.

    In the green Vonne Valley, the Sanxay Sanctuary is one of the largest and best conserved Gallo-Roman sites.The site measures more than 19 hectares and is dedicated to the worship of water, the source of life and fertility. From the 1st to the 4th century, Sanxay was a well-known pilgrimage for those seeking the protection of Mercury and Apollo. On the right bank, you can still see the remains of the 6500 seat amphitheatre, and on the left bank, you can see the baths which were constructed during the 2nd century and modified throughout the 3rd and 4th centuries.To the West of the baths, you will cross the ruins of an immense temple built in the 2nd century AD. The octagonal cella, measuring 9 metres in diameter, is bordered by an ambulatory in the shape of the Greek cross.
