• Cathédrale Saint Louis
    La Rochelle

Rochelais builds a first church in 1152, dedicated to saint Barthélémy. She is destroyed in 1568 during the religious wars. At the beginning of the XVIIth century, the Protestants build, in their turn, the big temple. In 1627-1628, La Rochelle is besieged by Brogue shoe which wants to finish it with the Huguenots. Twenty years later, the new bishop of the city transforms the temple into cathedral. This one is burned accidentally in 1687. We decide on the construction of a new cathedral, on the one that we can see nowadays. This construction is going to spread out over the XVIIIth and XIXth centuries.
