North to south, east to west, from Niort to Angoulême and Poitiers to Royan, throughout the Poitou-Charentes region, something is happening. Somewhere in a village, a port, an abbey, a castle, a beach or a neighborhood, festivals are tending you a welcome mat and propelling you towards a form of celebration, of encounter and exchange, of navigation leading to new friendships.
Here is a whole anthology of celebrations, of concerts, of games, dances, folklore shows, evenings at the theater, and displays of fireworks… that enliven our region throughout the year.
Every generation, all kinds of creations, a whole array of sensibilities come together in these venues, with pleasure and emotion, and celebrate the communion embracing the performing artist and his public.
Created in 1985, the La Rochelle Francopholies is now one of the most prominent music festivals in France.
Lovers of today’s French and French-speaking forms of musical expression are have a date every year, in the month of July.
In 2009, the 25th edition will be taking place from the 10th through the 15th of July.

Created in 1972 as a simple exhibition, soon deemed a salon on account of the interest aroused, Angoulême’s international comic strip festival is now a reference. It brings together a large number of internationally recognized figures in the universe of comics.
Aside from the exhibitions, it offers the public “the drawing concert”, a new and original concept through which great draftsmen proceed to live creation of a true comic strip on a giant screen.
The festival in Confolens, Charente is an event brilliantly bringing together popular arts and traditions from throughout the world. Over eight days, fifteen prestigious traditional groups selected on their merits will be performing.
Not to be missed: The grand gala opening and the equally grandiose closing panorama featuring all the groups.
