Poitou-Charentes inland

At the foot of the donjon, tortuous streets suffused with charm testify to centuries of event-filled history.

Niort is a pleasant town where it is enjoyable to stroll down and linger around the old streets that wind from Notre-Dame hill to Saint-André church, which reaches a height of 70m.

For further knowledge of the rich industrial past and the diversified local artists and artisans, just push the doors of the magnificently rehabilitated Bernard d’Agesci museum and those of the regional pole of artistic professions.

NIORT

The gateway to the Marais Poitevin

Advantageously located at the gateway to the Marais Poitevin (6 km), Niort is an ideal departure point for your explorations of Green Venice.

Gently bathed by the Sèvre Niortaise river, Niort was once a flourishing port and then a citadel girded with fortifications of which the Roman double donjon is the only remaining trace.

To be seen in Niort and surroundings...

The double Roman donjon that hosts a museum of regional ethnography, the old pillory, the covered market.

In the surrounding area: Saint-Maixent l'École, a town founded in the 5th century.
